Midnight Odyssey was officially founded in 2007, by sole creator Dis Pater. Originating from Ipswich, Australia (near Brisbane), Dis Pater weaved his influences of black metal, neoclassical, space ambient, folk music and doom metal together to create an entity that sounded like no other.

The first release, 2007's 'The Darker Rebellion', was a myspace-only online demo, but it was with the first proper album, 'The Forest Mourners' in 2008, that the cosmic journey truly began.

Originally limited to a Pro CD-R of 100 copies, it gained international attention in the underground. With 2009's 'Firmament', came a deal with the young Italian label I, Voidhanger Records. 

Since then many albums and splits have been recorded beginning with 2011's 'Funerals from the Astral Sphere'.

Dis Pater is still the sole creator in Midnight Odyssey, alongside his darkwave project Death Comes Crawling, and defunct projects The Crevices Below and Tempestuous Fall.

A whole 15 years after The Forest Mourners, Midnight Odyssey played live for the first time in London's Cosmic Void Festival in 2023, followed by a short tour.  In some ways, this seems like a new beginning.
